1 out of 5 stars Easy? It's anything but easy!!!!   January 18, 2010

I purchased this software based on reviews and the fact that it had a template I wanted to use. It took three weeks to create a website that is functionally limited. If you try to create a simple, single page HTML website without any add-ons you probably can do it in a day or two. If you want any dynamic content you will have problems making it work.

If you follow the user's guide you will have all sorts of problems. First, the guide leaves alot out. Second, some of it is just plain incorrect. Need help? Try their chat line first. These folks don't know much at all about their product. If the answer isn't on their script they ask you to call their "senior techs". Once you find out that they don't know much more (after waiting a half hour on hold) they transfer you to the company that created the software. Be prepared to wait for at least 45 minutes before you get to speak with someone. The first time I tried my phone died from the wait. They will listen to your problems, then tell you that the software has bugs and you can't do what you want.

I wanted six simple things. First, I wanted to be able to link a button to a pdf document. We got there, but the process took about 20 minutes of renaming files and changing code. The manual says this is a simple link. It isn't. Second, I wanted to be able to click anywhere on a button to go to a link or popup. You will want to place text on a button (of course you want to name your links), but you cannot click on the text to get the button to do anything. You can only click where there isn't any text. Solution? Nope. It's a software bug. Third, I wanted popup menus to display a solid background. Can you do this? Nope, another software bug. If your popup box overlaps your page text, both the page and popup text bleed through the box. Fourth, I wanted to select 11 point tfonts as labels on graphics on some parts of my site. 12 point was too large and 10 point was too small. Too bad. You cannot select an odd sized font. Fifth, I tried to place links on pictures that were on the template. You can create the links and review them, but when you build the site the links won't be there. You have to delete the picture, then paste it back in. Another software bug. The sixth problem drove me nuts. To build a multi-page site you start with a template. I built a total of 18 pages off of my template. If you need to make changes you should be able to make them on the template, then they should automatically apply to your other pages. The don't - another software bug. When I discovered that the links on the pictures didn't work, I had to change every single page, including rebuilding all of the links. Changing the template only affects the template.

All together, I spent three weeks creating my site, sifting through the ommissions and incorrect information in the manual, talking with suppport people who don't know their product, and finally getting the site on-line. Now that I know that I cannot use some of my popups (because of the text bleed through) and some other problems my site looks unprofessional and is unusable. I will have to purchase new software and start from scratch.

Web easy is anything but easy. If you are looking for web site creation software and you want a build a dynamic HTML site, my best advise is to look elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars It was not as much as I expected.   December 28, 2009

I thought it easy to upload/insert pictures. It was not. When I insert a picture, the image ( of picture) stratched the shape of temprate.
ex: the image was about 2X4. Then the shape of the window was 2X4.5, then my image was expanded to 2X4.5. It looks funny. I don't find how to solve this problem yet.
Anyway, it was not simple as I expected.
And the temprates are very limited function. I don't have freedom to change the color or font of temprate which I like. Well, this is what I get for the price.

I was hoping that this would be a good solution for building a web site....NO. The templates seemed difficult to change if you want to use your own pics. You can't preview template full size to see if you like the options. Changing the back ground colors wasn't too bad but not easy like the title says. I'm goning to return this software and look for a better option.

This is a terrible product. It uses the term template but in reality, a template is just a collection of individual pages that look the same. If you change the design or layout of your base "template" you have to edit each and every page. The only way you can create a navigation bar is by creating a separate frame outside the main page. Looks ridiculous. The "help" screens are standard tech head thoughtless screens. For example, "click on AutoLinks if you want to use AutoLinks" with absolutely no information about what AutoLinks does.

3 out of 5 stars An update on my earlier review   April 19, 2010

I bought this software after reading product reviews as I currently use an online WYSIWYG web company that I'm not happy with and I wanted to have more control over my site design. Having now worked with WebEasy Pro 8 over the past two weeks here are my observations:

    1. The manual is useless, so unless you're already familiar with graphics programs you will probably find the product frustrating -- I AM graphics savvy and I'm finding I have to dig and dig around the program to achieve what I want (I`m designing from scratch, not using a template). However, if you stick to the templates you'll probably have an easier time of it.

    2. When using a Flash video, unless you have it set to looping, it will not freeze on your final frame; it switches to some god-awful image from one of the software's videos. This is a bug in the WebEasy software as this does not happen with a Windows Media File (but that had others issues).

    3. The company's email help is slow and WAAAAY longer than their stated time of a 48-hour turnaround (if they answer at all: easy questions are answered promptly, more complicated ones appear to be ignored). It's better to phone BUT they don't publish the number on their website; you have to call their sales department first and then the number is given in their automated answer.

    4. There is no easy and immediate way to replicate items from page to page except by copying and pasting. For example, if you create a website header with a website menu, it would be great if you could simply tell the program to repeat the items, including their links, on all pages or selected pages. No can do. I suspect you have to create your own style sheet to do that, which just complicates what really should be an obvious option.

    5. The program does not distinguish between website background and page background. This distinction is important: the website background is an image or color which tiles to fill the viewer`s web browser, regardless of size; page background is fixed. So one way of eliminating that annoying box around your webpage is to have the website background and page background the same color BUT this only works in WebEasy if you use solid colors: if you set your background to a gradient or one of their stock patterns, it only fills the webpage: it doesn`t tile. This also means that you can`t create your own cool website background on which your page will sit. So if that is your wish, look elsewhere.

    6. Despite their marketing suggestion to the contrary, you CAN NOT embed photo galleries in your webpage. What the program does is create separate webpages of galleries which you must then link to your site by creating a folder in your index. And how do you do that? The manual doesn't tell you and neither does their help file; you'll have to call them and hope they can explain it, or have someone who knows CSS adjust the code for you (which is possible in WebEasy if you know how). Also note that their web gallery is really AWFUL: it looks terrible and all the thumbnails are squished into the same TINY square format which renders them useless and ugly, and many of the thumbnails were corrupted, presenting as pixellated garbage. So if web galleries are your aim, you will need to look elsewhere, like Photoshop or Lightroom or Flash, or even something like Firestarter by Coffee Cup, or look into WebPlus X4 which may have a better web gallery module and the linking code already embedded (I can't speak directly to the latter; I'm simply reiterating what I've read). Note that ALL these web gallery modules and programs create Flash-style galleries that must be linked, not embedded, to your webpage; AND Flash galleries cannot be "read" by search engines. So if you want your pictures to be searchable by title or content, Flash is not an option. Also, the fight between Apple and Adobe over Flash abilities may result in your galleries (or any Flash content) being unreadable on an iPhone or iPad (though in my opinion Apple is unlikely to win this since so many existing websites use Flash modules and Apple may simply lose their customers over the frustration).

    7. Another bug in the software is that Jpegs, when reduced in size to around 150 pixels or smaller, sometimes don't present properly when you check the page in your web browser. I found that I had to switch those images to the PNG format to fix the problem.

    8. Another bug is that your page size sometimes arbitrarily changes. Meaning, for example, that I set the page size to 1500 pixels long but every once in awhile the program cuts off the bottom. I check my page size, it still says I have 1500 pixels, but I have to reset it to get my pixels back. Not sure if that's going to happen once the site is live. I hope not or I'm going to be seriously, seriously annoyed.

In summary, the program is "buggy," I`m not entirely happy, and the product is certainly not as easy as they make out: you will need to make good use of the Help tabs to get into the deeper details, you will need to play around A LOT before you`ll feel comfortable with the program, and you will have to be savvy enough to work around the bugs if you encounter them.
